We are currently running Windows XP and are considering leasing computers from Mac/Apple, is it worth it? We use QuickBooks Pro and Office in our computers plus other software for our printers.

Answer: QuickBooks, Office, and other business software for Macs can be purchased; however, other than the efficiencies of Macs with heavy graphics and similar uses, we are not aware of any particular advantage that Macs have over PCs in the area of reliability, speed, life, or long-term cost of ownership. For example, a heavy business user may need to replace a computer every 3 to 5 years regardless of the brand. Also, speed and other technical performance is affected by the processor size, memory capacity, software applications, and other factors, many of which are chosen by the buyer and vary by computer. Business application software for Macs and PCs are very similar today and the business computer choice is often subjective. Another consideration is whether you are the only person using the Mac or if others in your business will also be using it who may not be familiar with Macs. If you are a long-term PC user, we strongly recommend that you go to an Apple Store or other computer dealer and test the keyboard and operating system functionality or even take a basic Mac training class, in order to understand the unique (and confusing to many long-term PC users) features of Macs before buying a new computer.

Of course, Mac equipment is typically more expensive than MS or PC. PC and Mac functionality and software compatibility is much more common than years ago, which can make a computer selection somewhat subjective in certain cases.
